Education Minister Janet Museveni and Education Service Commission Secretary Dr Asuman Lukwago
First lady Janet Kataaha Kainembabazi Museveni’s Ministry of Education and Sports is in the process of recruiting teachers, and a little over 17,000 candidates have been shortlisted and done interviews administered by the Education Service Commission (ESC).
Results of interviews, most of them done in the months of May and June 2022, will be the basis of choice of the best who will included on the government payroll.
For a number of subjects, oral interviews were conducted at five ESC centres across the country. These included: Arua, Gulu, Kampala, Mbale and Mbarara.
The ESC is expected to release results of the interviews in coming weeks, indicating those who will have become successful for inclusion on the government payroll.
In total, the number of teachers shortlisted for the available jobs is over 17,000. It should be noted that this recruitment began before the start of the teachers’ strikes — the one for science teachers and the current one for arts teachers.
The Education Ministry is said to be recruiting to close staffing gaps so as to improve service delivery in the education sector.
In the ongoing industrial action by secondary school arts teachers and their primary school colleagues, some government officials have been threatening to fire teachers who have refused to return to class.
First lady Janet Museveni recently told striking arts teachers that there are over 30,000 teachers ready to grab their jobs once government has fired them. (Read Story Here).
