Uganda Police Force (UPF) says its Rwizi Regional Disciplinary Court has recommended the dismissal of four officers from the law and order agency.
The four officers were filmed dragging an old woman through the mud to a car in a purported arrest in Lubiri Cell of Mbarara City.
A day after the video of them mercilessly dragging the old woman in the mud went viral, the four appeared before the Rwizi Regional Disciplinary Court.
The suspects are ASP Andrew Betunga, Detective Constable Darious Aharizira, Detective Constable Hope Nsasirwe, and Detective Constable Loyce Kiboneka.
Police says its Rwizi Regional Disciplinary Court found ASP Betunga, Aharizira, Nsasirwe and Kiboneka guilty of the offence of scandalous manner contrary to section 45 Code 14 (1) and (2) of the Police Act 324.
SP Joel Komakech chaired the police court convened behind closed doors. The suspects were convicted of misconduct in the case of torturing 65-year-old Victoria Kabatoraine.
The four were also arraigned before the Chief Magistrates Court in Mbarara City where they are facing charges of torture. They were sent on remand.
