The Uganda Law Council has granted a temporary practicing certificate to Narc Kenya leader and lawyer Martha Karua, meaning she is now allowed to represent opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye and Hajj Obeid Lutale Kamulegeya before the General Court Martial.
The Law Council of Uganda’s decision means it has rescinded its earlier ruling on Martha Karua’s request last year.
Karua is expected to lead the legal team representing Dr Besigye and Lutale in court starting tomorrow, January 07, 2025.
The duo face charges of undermining national security and unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition after they were abducted from Nairobi, Kenya in November 2024.
The latest decision was unanimously reached as the Law Council members, in a meeting chaired by Justice Irene Mulyagonja, ruled on Martha Karua’s appeal. When she was first denied a practicing certificate, the Law Council gave shocking reasons – including politics!
But Martha Karua appealed the ruling, seeking the help of Isaac Ssemakadde, the Law Society president famous for ‘banging tables.’ (See Details Here, There and Over There).
Meanwhile, as Martha Karua was kept off Besigye legal team, a fearless lawyer shook the tables of Museveni’s army generals in the Court Martial. (See Details Here).
