First son and Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has announced a ceasefire against Germans. Muhoozi has also apologized to his uncle Gen Salim Saleh (real name Caleb Akandwanaho).
Last week, a European Union (EU) delegation met Salim Saleh in the northern Ugandan city of Gulu. In the meeting, the envoys, including German Ambassador to Uganda Matthias Schauer, complained about Gen Muhoozi’s actions and attacks on social media.
The envoys also complained about Uganda’s human rights record, and Gen Muhoozi’s role in the same.
In response, Gen Salim Saleh said Gen Muhoozi was almost a Gen Z. He apologized on behalf of his nephew but said he could not account for what he would tweet that night because he had no control over the same,
“He [Gen Muhoozi] is a new type of… he is a Gen-Z, I think. That one we have already tried. He even attacked the Human Rights Commission [UHRC], but it is not a big issue really because for him, he is outside us (National Resistance Army-NRA). You know there was the King’s African Rifle, then the Uganda Army, then UNLA, then NRA and now UPDF,” Saleh told the envoys.
In the meeting, former spy David Pulkol blasted Andrew Mwenda and others for attempting to defend Gen Muhoozi’s actions.
Gen Muhoozi responded by labelling Pulkol a betrayer.
“We are having some issues with the current German Ambassador to Uganda. It has to do with him as a person. He is wholly unqualified to be in Uganda,” Muhoozi claimed.
“It has nothing to do with the great German people. Whom I admire a lot.”
But some people advised him to cease fire and listen to his uncle.
“David Pulkor was with your Uncle Gen Salim Saleh Rufu. Gen Saleh called for a cease fire and talks. He offered an apology on your behalf,” wrote former spy Charles Rwomushana.
“Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, I’m sure you respect your Uncle and you must respect him. Cease all hostilities and seek guidance from Saleh.”
Hours later, Muhoozi announced he would cease fire against the Germans and would heed his uncle Salim Saleh’s advice.
“Out of respect for my great uncle, Afande Saleh, I shall not mention Germany or bazungu again,” he wrote.
“I want to apologize to Afande Saleh if I disobeyed him in anyway. Nisamehe Afande.”
Meanwhile, the UPDF has cut defence ties with Germany over ‘subversive’ ambassador allegations, as reported Here.
The UPDF announced it was suspending defence ties with Germany after the army alleged that intelligence reports indicate that Ambassador Schauer is engaged in funding rebel groups plotting to remove Museveni from power. (See Details Here and There).
Days earlier, CDF Gen Muhoozi had threatened sanctions against EU envoys, warning them to stop playing with fire by meeting opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine and other NUP leaders. (See Details Here and There).
Months before the current diplomatic escalation, Muhoozi accused US ambassador to Uganda of disrespecting President Museveni, his father, and of undermining Uganda’s sovereignty — and told the envoy to either apologize or leave Uganda, as reported Here and There.
