In 2020, Parliament of Uganda created five parliamentary seats for elderly persons. One of the five seats is occupied by a woman (national female MP for elders).
The elderly MPs represent regions: Central, Eastern, Northern and Western Uganda. They are elected by members of Elders’ Councils from the districts that make up each region.
The national female MP for elders is elected by the National Elders’ Council whose delegates come from all the regions of Uganda.
The Pearl Times can now confirm that Jacqueline Mbabazi wants the Western Uganda elders MP position for herself.
Jacqueline’s husband Mbabazi was once the NRM secretary general and understands the politics within the ruling party.
