Elizabeth Kakwanzi Katanywa, one of the candidates seeking the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) flag for the Western Youth MP race, has addressed allegations of being a ‘state candidate’ in the race.
Kakwanzi is one of the scores of candidates in the crowded NRM primary election for the Western Youth MP, and one of the most well-known in the race.
Given the opportunities that come with a youth MP, the races are normally competitive. And Kakwanzi now accuses her opponents of propaganda aimed at tarnishing her image as the race heats up.
While the youth delegates were expected to pick an NRM flagbearer at the recently concluded NRM delegates conference at Kololo Independence Grounds, the party’s electoral body pushed the elections to a yet to be announced date.
Kakwanzi has now responded to claims that she is a proxy of powerful interests and that she is being pushed by well-connected state forces.
Elizabeth Kakwanzi Katanywa told NBS Faceoff that she made the decision to run for MP herself without being convinced or compelled by anyone.
She added that in the two years she has canvassing support for her bid as western youth MP, she has visited the delegates in their homes and had meaningful interactions with them as she sold her manifesto instead of soiling the image of her competitors.
“The only way they can push me away is to try and say that I am a state candidate; that is absolutely not true,” she said.
“It’s my own initiative to come and lead. It is my own wish. It is what I desire to work for the people of western Uganda.”
It should be remembered that months ago, Elizabeth Kakwanzi’s so-called leaked videos trended online, with some claiming she had released them to win political support. (See Details Here and There).
