Uganda Police Force (UPF) CID detectives are investigating Ggaba children killer’s previous murder case allegations – and how he got away with it.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke says detectives had come across a video of a woman claiming that prime suspect (killer) Christopher Okello Onyum had previously committed murder in 2019.
Detectives’ interest in the case was confirmed hours after Minister of Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi ordered police to probe allegations that appeared to link the killer of Ggaba children, Christopher Okello Onyum, to another suspected murder case from 2019.
“Any one with contact of this parent crying out, kindly share so that we support and handle her matter transparently and utmost urgency,” wrote Minister Barugahara. “You may direct her to see director CID Tom Magambo direct at Kibuli CID headquarters. The truth will be known and justice will be served.”
A woman had appeared in a video, widely shared online, alleging that Christopher Okello Onyum strangled her baby son in 2019.
The woman claims that sometime in 2019, she was a wife to Christopher Okello Onyum’s father. That she one had returned home to the shocking sight of her dead son, who was about a year and three months old.
She alleges that Newman, for that was her son’s name, had been strangled by Okello on that ‘dark’ afternoon.
“He tied a rope around his neck and strangled him. When he saw that that was not enough, he wrapped a polythene bag around his head to choke him,” she narrated, the pain in that memory sounding fresh.
The woman even share a postmortem report indicating that the baby had succumbed to hypoxia due to strangulation and suffocation.
She further claimed that she was denied justice as Okello managed to flee the wheels of justice by running out of the country to hide in the United States.
She now demands justice for her and the parents of the four children that Okello killed at the Ggaba Early Childhood Development Program last week.
“I am happy now that he is arrested and I pray that God comforts the parents of the four babies. I hope that we can get justice this time,” she said.
“He must never come out in public again, because had he been apprehended when he killed my boy, he’d never have been able to kill those babies in Ggaba.”
Police on Okello’s past crimes
According to police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke, detectives are investigating the claims regarding Okello’s past involvement in murder crimes. He assured Ugandans that police was working to ensure that there was justice.
Police is also probing if there was miscarriage of justice, and, if so, who was responsible?
“We picked interest into that matter… we shall follow that matter to its depth. Our CID teams are looking into the facts around it because the allegation is that he got off the hook,” said Rusoke.
“If we find that there were any loose knots, we shall tie them and ensure that this suspect does not go scot free. We shall patch up all the gaps.”
Meanwhile, Museveni has ordered judges on the trial of Ggaba children’s killer Okello. There have also been some reports that the killer was mentally sick. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
