Fresh details have emerged on accident that killed Kikuube District LCV chairman Peter Banura Araali as Uganda Police Force (UPF) issued a statement.
UPF spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke has confirmed that Police in the Albertine South Region had registered a fatal road traffic crash that involved Kikuube District LCV chairman Peter Banura Araali.
Rusoke further noted that the accident happened in Butyamba Village, also known as the Butyamba IDP area, in Kikuube Town Council.
He added that “the victim was reportedly knocked down by a speeding Toyota Hiace motor vehicle.”
Peter Banura Araali was rushed to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital. Later, health workers at the regional facility pronounced him dead.
Police say they are hunting for the driver of the Toyota Hiace. “The driver fled the scene immediately after the crash. However, the vehicle has since been recovered and impounded by police,” said Rusoke. “Efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest the driver to assist with the ongoing investigations.”
Peter Banura Araali was son to Maj Gen (Rtd) Matayo Kyaligonza, Uganda’s ambassador to Burundi and former NRM vice chairman for western Uganda.

Road accidents are a public health concern in Uganda. According to a recently released annual crime report, in 2025, a total number of 26,044 road traffic crashes were reported compared to 25,107 crashes recorded in 2024, representing an increase of 3.7 percent.
Fatal crashes also increased from 4,434 in 2024 to 4,602 in 2025, while serious and minor crashes increased by 3.3 percent and 4.5 percent, respectively. Although road crashes continue to increase, the trend over the past five years indicates that the rate of increase gradually slowed.

This year alone, a number of accidents have been recorded across the country. Just a few weeks ago, three family members were killed in an accident in Entebbe, five were killed in a bus accident in Kiryandongo, and three in a Tausi accident, as reported Here, There and Over There.
