The Education Service Commission (ESC) has sent out calls for applications for teachers, deputy head teachers and head teachers that the Ministry of Education and Sports hopes to deploy in KCCA Government Aided Primary Schools.
In the first advert, ESC made it clear that the call for this was only for substantively appointed staff in KCCA Government Aided Primary Schools.
It notes that it was seeking applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill the posts that have fallen vacant in the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) primary schools.
The Applications, noted ESC in a notice, should be filled online using the E-recruitment portal of the Education Service Commission (ESC), adding that applications should be submitted not later than 29th November, 2024 at 1 1:59 P.m.
The commission has offered instructions on filling and submission of application forms.
On account creation process, applicants have been advised to Click ‘Sign Up’ button highlighted in the top right corner for you to create account/ user profile on the system. They can then fill in the required information in the ‘Create an Applicant’s Account’.
“A confirmation of ‘successful creation of account’ will be sent to your email with a confirmation link which will lead you to log in to the system successfully,” the instructions further read.
For the application process, once can Go to ‘View Job Detail’ against the job that one qualifies for; search for the job and study the job detail carefully.
To apply for the job, click ‘Apply for Job’ at the right corner, Then submit your application or save in case you may need to come back to it.
Applicants have also been advised to create an email address in case one does not have one; scan one’s passport size photograph (jpg, jpeg, png format); scan relevant documents; as well as keep a copy of application form for future use.
Relevant Documents include: Academic Documents, registration Certificate(s), National and Institutional identity cards, letters of Appointment, Confirmation and Posting/Transfer.
Regarding Recommendation Forms, applicants have been advised to Click Publications on the ESC website to find form or to click the link labelled ESC-RecommendationForm.pdf.
“Please note that: The application process should be completed ONLINE. (Hand delivered applications will not be accepted). Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted,” ESC further noted.
“Upload only the required documents as per the job specifications. Shortlisted candidates will have the opportunity to present the rest of their relevant documents during the oral interviews.
“Applicants should note that the successful candidates will be deployed by Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). For all posts, qualified women and persons with disability are encouraged to apply.”
The ESC will recruit 31 head teachers for KCCA government-aided primary schools. These will report to the KCCA Director, Education and Social Services.
Regarding the head teacher’s responsibilities, s/he will be in charge of overall administration and management of the school; plan for physical development of the School and Professional development of the staff; Plan, organize, direct and co-ordinate the teaching programmes and activities of staff and learners; and Ensure proper planning, budgeting and accountability for the school activities and resources in consultation with the Board of Governors.
S/he will also co-ordinate the functions of the Board of Governors and accounts to them and the Ministry of Education and Sports; supervise and appraise all the employees of the school; direct activities concerning student admissions, provision of supplies and welfare of students; and Participate in the implementation of the Education Sector reforms related to Primary Education.
The other responsibility will be to prepare progress and summary reports for presentation and submission to the management committee Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) and Ministry of Education and Sports; as well as performance of any other duty assigned by the relevant authority.
On Qualifications and Working Experience for head teacher KCCA government aided primary schools, one must have a Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Primary) or equivalent of this from recognized Institution/University; be registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports; and have a minimum of twelve (12) years teaching experience, three (3) of which should have been at the level of Deputy Head teacher.
The ESC will also hire up to 43 deputy head teachers for KCCA government aided primary schools. The deputy head teacher will report to the head teacher.
S/he will have the following duties and responsibilities: assist the Head Teacher in the overall administration and management of the school; Prepare schemes of work and lesson plans on a monthly and y basis; supervises the non-teaching and support staff; and ensure effective and efficient maintenance of records, material resources, facilities and information services for efficient accountability.
S/he will also enforce discipline in the school, ensure integrity of internal and external exams administration and supervision; prepare the academic plans, programmes and schedules (Timetable) of the school; and performs any other duty assigned by the relevant authority.
For Qualifications and Working Experience, a teacher who wants to be a deputy head teacher of a KCCA government aided primary school must have a minimum of a Diploma in Education (Primary) from a recognized Training Institution; and be registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports.
He or she must also have a minimum of Nine (09) years teaching experience as a qualified Primary school teacher, three (3) of which should have been as Senior Education Assistant.
The ESC also intends to hire 207 Senior education assistants for KCCA government aided primary schools. These will report to the Deputy Head teacher. Their duties and responsibilities will include preparing schemes of work and lesson plans in line with the approved curriculum on termly and weekly basis; and conducting lessons and remedial work according to the set timetable.
Senior education assistants will also participate in setting, administering and marking internal and external examinations; carrying out continuous assessment and evaluation of pupils’ performance; as well as preparing and selecting appropriate learning aids/materials for classroom teaching.
They will also be responsible for keeping and maintaining class records/inventory; carrying out child studies and keeping a profile for each pupil in the class; guiding and counselling pupils; participating in class and departmental meetings; participating in co-curricular and community activities; participating in self-assessment and appraisal of the staff; and performing any other duties as may be assigned by the relevant authority.
Regarding Qualification and Work Experience, a senior education assistant should have a minimum of a Grade Ill Teaching Certificate from a recognized Institution; be registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports; and have Minimum of Six (6) years teaching experience as Education Assistant.
The second call for applications is an external advert which is open to all Eligible Candidates. The ESC is inviting applications from suitably qualified Ugandans to fill posts that have fallen vacant in the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) Primary Schools.
Unlike in the first call explained above, applications for the external advert should be submitted in triplicate on Education Service Commission ESC Form 3 ( 1998) to the Secretary, Education Service Commission, not later than 29th November, 2024.
The ESC Application Form 3 ( 1998) and Summary Form is obtainable from the Education Service Commission Website, noted ESC.
“Applications should bear the title of the post as well as the reference number specified against the post,” the commission further indicated. “Applicants should attach photocopies of Academic Certificates and Transcripts, National ID plus a recent passport size photograph on each application Form. For all posts, qualified women and persons with disability are encouraged to apply.”
For submission of application documents, the ESC says all Applications Forms will be received from KCCA/City Hall Gardens from Monday 18th November, 2024 to Friday 29th November, 2024 starting from 9:00am to 5:00pm on Working Days.
For this external advert, the ESC is hiring 293 education assistants who will report to Senior Education Assistants. Their Duties and Responsibilities will include: Preparing schemes of work and lesson plans in line with the approved curriculum on termly and weekly basis; Conducting lessons and remedial work according to the set timetable; Participating in setting, administering and marking internal and external examinations.
They will also carry out continuous assessment and evaluation of pupils’ performance; prepare and select appropriate learning aids/materials for classroom teaching; keep and maintain class records/inventory; carry out child studies and keeping a profile for each pupil in the class Guiding and counselling pupils; serve as a classroom teacher, as well as teacher on duty.
They will also participate in co-curricular and community activities; and perform any other duties as may be assigned by the relevant authority.
Regarding the Qualifications and Work Experience of education assistants, they should have a Minimum of a Grade Ill Teaching Certificate from a recognized Institution; be registered with the Ministry of Education and Sports. The ESC considers a Diploma in Education Primary as an added advantage.
