Ruling NRM party Electoral Commission (EC) chairman Dr Fred Tanga Odoi has denied asking speaker and deputy speaker candidates to pick expression of interest forms and apply for the positions.
On May 04, a statement on the official NRM party Twitter account asked all MPs interested in Parliament’s top positions to apply.
But Tanga Odoi distanced himself from the statement.
It has now emerged that the administrator of the account has refused to delete the tweet on orders from top officials at the secretariat.
It was not readily clear who was backing the social media administrator to defy Tanga Odoi and make statements he has so far distanced himself from.
But the professor is known to have bad blood with secretary general Justine Kasule Lumumba.
It is not clear whether the decision to subject speaker and deputy speaker aspirants to a vetting process was agreed upon by the party.
But secretariat officials are known to feud in pushing their personal interests.
