President Yoweri Museveni’s government has increased salaries of CAOs, town clerks, commissioners and undersecretaries, The Pearl Times has confirmed.
Documents obtained by The Pearl Times indicate that billions have been earmarked for the salary enhancement for Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), Town Clerks of Cities and Municipalities, Undersecretaries and Commissioners.
The salary enhancement for CAOs, town clerks, commissioners and undersecretaries takes effect on July 01, 2025.
Regarding salary enhancement for public officers, The Pearl Times has further learnt from Public Service Ministry Permanent Secretary Catherine Bitarakwate Musingwiire, “government continues to fulfill its commitment to enhancing the salary of all Public Officers in a phased manner.”
This news publication can also confirm that Shs57bn has been allocated for the enhancement of salaries for Chief Administrative Officers and Officers at the Level of Directors; City Town Clerks; Municipal Town Clerks; Undersecretaries; and Commissioners.
The Pearl Times has also learnt that the decision to raise these public officers’ salaries was reached through a number of engagements, the last one being in April this year when Museveni met over 200 Chief Administrative Officers (CAOs), Town Clerks and Under Secretaries at State House Entebbe.
“Many of us serve in districts far from our homes, incurring high personal costs on transport. Coupled with not enough pay and the rising cost of living. These challenges place a burden on our ability to serve optimally,” said Gabriel Atama, the Chief Administrative Officer of Tororo District, who spoke on behalf of his colleagues.
“As officers committed to national development, we stand ready to continue delivering, we however appeal for increased facilitation and welfare improvements to match the expectations placed upon us.”
Still on salary increment, as The Pearl Times has also reported, arts teachers have also reached an agreement with Museveni for the enhancement of their salaries. (See Details of the arts teachers’ deal with Museveni Here and There).
