President Yoweri Museveni has finally agreed to reopen music concerts for artistes after over a year of closure, Pearl Times News has learnt.
Music events were banned in March last year as government announced the ban on all public gatherings as a way of curtailing the spread of Covid19.
Educational services, public transport, public worship and international travels were all suspended in the same light.
Other sectors have since been allowed to resume in a phased manner but artistes have remained under closure since then.
Events promoter Balaam Barugahara has now told this news publication that government has finally resolved to open the sector, though under stringent terms.
Barugahara is a close associate of President Museveni and his son Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba.
He is well known for connecting artistes to the country’s number one.
The events promoter has revealed that specific venues will be inspected and approved to host such concerts with strict observance of Ministry of Health (MoH) SOPs.
“A specific number of people will be allowed to attend specific venues as certified by the authorities,” Barugahara told this reporter.
He added that he was “very excited” that his efforts, and those of other leaders to beg the President to free their trade have finally paid off.
He however implores the public to continue observing MoH SOPs.
The president is expected to announce the lifting of the ban on concerts and other entertainment events.
