Museveni poses with new NRM CEC members 2025
Save for national chairman Gen Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa and the first national vice chairperson Moses Kigongo, all incumbents were defeated in the NRM CEC elections, paving the way for new faces to take over.
For the top members of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Central Executive Committee (CEC) – which includes the national chairperson, his national and deputy chairpersons – it was a clean sweep.
Interestingly, Museveni and Kigongo were unopposed – the same thing Rebecca Kadaga wanted for her position as the second national vice chairperson.
Apart from these two ringfenced positions, there was fierce competition for the regional deputies, with some candidates reportedly spending billions of shillings to bribe the thousands of delegates gathered at the Kololo Independence Grounds in Kampala.
This is how the top NRM CEC looks like following elections:
– Party Chairman: Yoweri Kaguta Museveni Tibuhaburwa
Regional Vice Chairpersons
League Chairpersons
Pending elections are those of the youth and entreprenuers’ leagues. For the youth elections, Dr Tanga Odoi declared his son Collins Tanga the league chairperson but the declaration has been challenged by Brenda Kiconco, who has since filed a petition in the NRM disputes tribunal.
