Cedric Babu GoFundMe Donations Had Hit Almost Shs200m by The Time of His Death

At least 13 per cent of the money that was needed for Cedric Babu heart transplant in London had been collected by the time of his death.

Cedric Babu’s family announced his death on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at the Aga Khan Hospital in the Kenyan capital Nairobi.

His death happened less than 48 hours since his family started on a GoFundMe fundraiser to collect £300,000 (roughly Shs1.5bn) to facilitate medical bills and other expenses for a heart transplant in London.

Cedric Babu’s heart complications had worsened in recent days, with his family describing his condition as “severe heart failure” by the time the GoFundMe fundraising appeal went live on Thursday, May 29, 2025.

Friends and family as well as generous well wishers across the world had come in to contribute to the target, donating thousands, hundreds and tens of dollars.

An anonymous contributor sent in £7,417. The Ruparelia Family contributed £2,500. Leopold Kyanda gave £622. Up to six people contributed £1000 and above.

At least 343 people had sent in their contributions from across the world.

In total, £39,358 (about Shs200m) had been collected by the time Cedric Babu breathed his last in Nairobi, Kenya, at the age of 46.

This was a little over 13 per cent of the £300,000 (about Shs1.5bn) that was required.

Siki Kigongo, the Organiser of the fundraiser from Northern Ireland, moved to disable new donations to the fundraiser when Cedric Babu was pronounced dead in Nairobi.

“We remain grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support shown throughout his journey,” the family said in a statement announcing Cedric Babu’s death.

“Please continue to keep our family in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.”
