Amos Lugoloobi, the Minister of State in charge of Planning at the Ministry of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, has been arrested over the theft of iron sheets that were meant for Karamoja sub region youth under an empowerment progam.
By publication time, Minister Lugoloobi was being detained at Kira Road Police Station. He was expected to spend the weekend behind bars.
Since courts of law do not work on weekends, Lugolobi, who doubles as the Ntenjeru North MP, was expected to be arraigned before the Anti-Corruption Court based in Kololo in the capital Kampala where he would take plea.
The arrest of Lugoloobi came hours after Dr Mary Goretti Kitutu, the Minister of Karamoja Affairs, was released on bail over the same Karamoja ‘mabaati’ scandal.
It should be remembered that the mabaati scandal came to light after the arrest of Minister Kitutu’s mother and brother. (See Details Here).
It would later emerge that Minister Lugolobi had used the iron sheets to roof his goats’ shed.
Minister Kitutu spent her Easter holidays in Luzira Prison after being denied bail. She had appeared the Anti-Corruption Court hiding her face in a ‘veil of shame.’ (See Details Here and Here).
And this looks like Lugoloobi is likely to spend some time in prison too.
Following Kitutu’s arrest, there were growing calls for the arrest of Vice President Jessica Alupo, Speaker Anita Among, Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja and a number of ministers named in the Karamoja iron sheets scandal. (Read Story Here).
President Museveni would come out and reveal what he will do to his ministers named in the Karamoja iron sheets theft scandal. (See Details Here).
