Bobi Wine’s Singing Partner Nubian Li Arrested after Being Nominated for Mayoral Position

Bobi Wine’s Singing Partner Nubian Li has been arrested moments after being nominated to stand for the Nakawa mayoral position, his National Unity Platform (NUP) party officials have  confirmed.

Nubian Li, real name Ali Bukeni, is a singing partner of Bobi Wine, real name Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, for a period of about 20 years.

Even in mainstream opposition politics, Nubian Li is one of Bobi Wine’s most trusted allies in the running of the affairs of NUP, Uganda’s main opposition political party.

NUP secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya said Nubian Li was “the latest victim of the latest wave of arrests and abductions of NUP leaders and supporters.”

According to Rubongoya, Nubian Li was “picked up outside the EC offices, right after his nomination,” an indication of how “the impunity continues.”

Leader of opposition in parliament (LoP) and Nakawa West MP Joel Ssenyonyi said Nubian Li was “pushed into a police truck and taken to an unknown location.”

“The fear of the regime is evident, let’s press on!” added Ssenyonyi.
