Main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has described the Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi Electoral Commission (EC) as “incompetent” after his supporter forms were rejected.
Bobi Wine is seeking to run against long serving president Yoweri Museveni for the second time after an unsuccessful first run in 2021.
Now, days to his official nomination date, Bobi Wine has been informed that some of the submitted supporter lists lacked the required number as prescribed by the law.
Byabakama’s September 19 2025 letter to presidential aspiring candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine on lists of supporters in suport of nomination as a presidential candidates made it clear that the NUP boss has “not complied with the requirement under Section 10 (1) (b) and (3) of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 177.
“Reference is made to the submission of lists of supporters for your nomination as a Presidential Candidate to the Electoral Commission on 8th September 2025. Upon verification of the names, Voter Numbers/National ID Numbers and other particulars that you submitted, it has been established that out of the submitted lists for 130 Districts, only 80 Districts had the required number and the remaining 18 had less than the required number as per the attached details of the verification results,” wrote Byabakama.
“In effect, you have not complied with the requirement under Section 10 (1) (b) and (3) of the Presidential Elections Act, Cap 177. Please, be reminded that the nomination of Presidential candidates shall be concluded on 24th September 2025.”
Bobi Wine has described the EC as partial but vowed to “submit more signatures [today] and in the coming days and see what more excuse they present.”
“We just received this letter past 6:00pm [Friday, September 19, 2025] evening. You can see the level of the EC’s incompetence and partiality. If we had not exposed the scheme earlier, they were probably planning to inform us officially on Monday, just a few hours to our nomination on Tuesday 23rd,” wrote Bobi Wine.
“We have demanded for a complete report showing which signatures were accepted and those which were rejected but the EC won’t say, because they know what they’re doing is wrong. They know that we submitted MORE THAN ENOUGH SIGNATURES but are just trying to frustrate us.
“These are signs that the regime is scared of the Protest Vote 2026.”
Bobi Wine has previously described the Electoral Commission as MUSEVENI’S WALKING STICK after Museveni filled the EC with NRM Cadres, as reported Here.
Meanwhile, NUP is vetting candidates who want to be parliamentary flagbearers for 2026. The party has also released lists of flagbearers for local government positions. (See Details Here and There).
