Rest in Peace
A politician and flagbearer of the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) has collapsed and died, leaving his voters and fellow politicians in shock.
Hakim Mugabi, the LC3 Chairperson of Kashozi Division in Sheema Municipality in Western Uganda, was pronounced dead shortly after he collapsed on Friday, September 19, 2025.
Mugabi was aged 56.
He breathed his last at about 8:30am as he was being driven to the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in Mbarara City.
Reports indicate that Hakim Mugabi had complications related to high blood pressure.
Mugabi has been serving his first term as the LC3 Chairperson for Kashozi Division after winning the election for the position in 2021.
In recently held NRM primaries, Hakim Mugabi had been chosen as the flagbearer to defend his position.
He was also well known in the party’s structures. Hakim Mugabi defeated Eng Raymond Kamugisha, who heads the presidential projects and industrial hubs, in the race for the position of NRM vice chairperson for Sheema Municipality.
Hakim Mugabi was also a leader in the Sheema Municipality muslim community. He was the Chairperson of Sheema Muslims and a member of the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) General Assembly.
Sheema District Kadhi Sheikh Sulamain Kafeero described Hakim Mugabi as a pillar of religion in Sheema, further praising him as a man of integrity and one who united fellow muslims around Islamic and other causes.
Mugabi will be laid to rest today, Saturday, September 20, 2025 in Rwanyamukinya, Kashozi Division, Sheema Municipality where his official home is located.
