Bobi Wine: We Have Received Disturbing Reports That Muwanga Kivumbi Was Tortured to Near Death at Kasenyi SFC Military Barracks

KAMPALANational Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, has claimed that the party has received reports alleging that its Deputy President for Buganda, Muwanga Kivumbi, was severely tortured while being held at Kasenyi Special Forces Command (SFC) military barracks.

In a statement issued about 10 days after Kivumbi’s reported rearrest following his release on bail, Kyagulanyi alleged that the legislator had been secretly detained and that his whereabouts remain unknown.

“We’ve received disturbing reports alleging that Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi was tortured to near death at Kasenyi SFC military barracks and is now being hidden from the public while receiving treatment before he can be produced,” Kyagulanyi said.

He added that the allegations should not be ignored, citing what he described as similar experiences faced by opposition figures in the past.

“These reports cannot be dismissed lightly. Many of us have gone through similar ordeals at the hands of this regime and were deliberately hidden from the public until our wounds and the evidence of torture had faded,” he said.

Kyagulanyi further accused the authorities of diverting public attention while Kivumbi remains missing.

“While the regime keeps the country distracted with endless diversions, it’s now 10 days since our Deputy President of the Buganda region was abducted in broad daylight and since then, he has never been seen again,” he said.

According to the NUP leader, neither the Uganda Police Force nor the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) has provided information regarding Kivumbi’s whereabouts.

“Neither the police nor the army have accounted for his whereabouts. Where is Hon. Muwanga Kivumbi?” Kyagulanyi asked.

Kivumbi, a senior NUP official and former Butambala Member of Parliament, was rearrested shortly after securing release on bail.

His alleged disappearance has prompted renewed concern from opposition supporters and human rights advocates, who have repeatedly demanded that security agencies disclose his whereabouts and grant him access to lawyers and family members.

By the time of publication, the Uganda Police Force, the UPDF and the Special Forces Command had not publicly responded to Kyagulanyi’s latest allegations. The claims of torture and secret detention have also not been independently verified.

Meanwhile, Bobi Wine has appointed a new acting NUP president, as reported Here.
