National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has called on President Yoweri Museveni’s government security agencies to unconditionally release veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye.
Reports indicate that Dr Besigye has been missing since Saturday. Besigye was in Nairobi, Kenya for the launch of opposition politician Martha Karua’s book when he went missing.
Nairobi is the same city where Besigye practiced as a medical doctor before quitting to join Museveni in the 1981-86 National Resistance Army (NRA) bush war that catapulted Museveni to power.
In the bush, Besigye was Museveni’s personal physician, and also treated many injured combatants.
Now, as Besigye remains missing for days, opposition politician Bobi Wine has condemned the alleged kidnap of the 68-year-old politician.
Bobi Wine said Besigye’s arrest was shocking, and that Kenya was no longer safe for Ugandan opposition activists. He demanded the immediate and unconditional release of the four-time presidential candidate.
“It is very shocking that Kenya which used to be a safer haven for (Ugandan) dissidents is now increasingly becoming an operational zone for the dictatorship in Uganda,” Bobi Wine said as he appeared on an NTV Uganda morning show.
“We condemn that, and we demand for the immediate release of Dr. Kizza Besigye and I call upon all people of good conscience to condemn this and to demand for the immediate release of Dr. Kizza Besigye.”
Meanwhile, Besigye’s wife Winnie Byanyima has revealed the place where she believes her husband is being imprisoned, as reported Here.
