Bobi Wine not Shot but Stumbled While Getting into His Car – Police Officers on Scene

The spokesperson of Uganda Police Force (UPF), Kituuma Rusoke, says officers who were at the scene of the September 03 incident in which main opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine was injured claim that the NUP president was not shot but stumbled as he got into his vehicle.

After the incident, Bobi Wine was rushed to Najeem Medical Centre in Bulindo for first aid.

In their first statement hours after the incident happened in Bulindo, Kira Municipality in Wakiso District, police addressed the alleged shooting.

Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke accused Bobi Wine and his team of defying orders by police officers after the NUP boss and his group attended a ceremony organized by lawyer George Musisi.

“…  Hon. Kyagulanyi Robert was invited by Mr. George Musisi (Lawyer), to a Thanksgiving ceremony in Bulindo, Kiira Municipality, Wakiso District. Hon. Kyagulanyi participated in the celebration, which concluded peacefully,” said Kituuma Rusoke.

“When Hon. Kyagulanyi left the venue, he and his team moved out of their cars and embarked on a procession up to Bulindo town; however, the police advised against it. Despite their guidance, he insisted on proceeding and closing the road, leading to police intervention to prevent the procession.”

The police publicist could neither confirm nor deny that Bobi Wine was shot, adding that the matter would be investigated.

But he said police officers at the scene of the incident had claimed Bobi Wine had stumbled and not been shot as alleged.

“During the ensuing altercation, it is alleged that he sustained injuries. Police officers on site claim he stumbled while getting into his vehicle, causing the injury, whereas Hon. Kyagulanyi and his team assert that he was shot,” Kituuma Rusoke further noted.

“An investigation will be conducted to clarify the facts. The police will investigate the alleged shooting and any related incidents.”

The preliminary police report is different from claims by Bobi Wine’s group, including his bodyguard Eddie Mutwe who claimed his boss had been shot in the leg by police. (See Details Here).
