Bobi Wine Finally Admits His NUP Party Has Received Money from President Museveni’s Government

National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine seemed to admit that his party has received money from President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s government.

In a statement in which he claimed to debunk ‘propaganda about Ipod funding,” Bobi Wine made it clear he and his party have never received money under the Interparty Organisation for Dialogue (Ipod) arrangement, a dialogue platform for all political parties represented in the Ugandan parliament.

It should be remembered that NUP declined to be part of Ipod. (Read Story Here).

Some critics of the main opposition party have been ridiculing it for receiving money from a platform it refused to join.

But Bobi Wine has set the record on Ipod funding.

“The National Unity Platform would like to reiterate once again that it is not part of the IPOD arrangement and has never received any funding or support from that platform,” said Bobi Wine in a statement.

But he admitted that the current government, whose leader is President Museveni of the NRM party, is part of the funders of the opposition party’s activities.

“The Party is funded by its elected Members of Parliament, donations and disbursements allocated by Parliament to all Political Parties with representation in Parliament,” noted the NUP leader.

“For clarity, Section 14A of the Political Parties and Organisations Act (As amended) provides that “Government shall contribute funds or other public resources towards the activities of political parties or organisations represented in Parliament.’ Sub-section (c) states that ‘in respect of normal day to day activities, funding shall be based on the numerical strength of each political party or organization in Parliament.”

Bobi Wine emphasized that these funds are from Museveni’s government — and not the president.

“These are funds allocated by Parliament, disbursed from the consolidated fund and duly accounted for. It is not Museveni’s money!” said Bobi Wine.

“The regime and its tools have always tried to cluster this funding as the ‘IPOD money’ which they know is false. IPOD is a loose arrangement, with no basis in the laws of Uganda.”

Bobi Wine statement

Available records show that NUP has received Shs3.1bn, NRM Shs17.1bn, FDC Shs1.7bn, DP and UP Shs485m, each, Jeema and PPP, Shs53m, each.
