Veteran opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has urged hospitalized outgoing works and transport minister Gen Edward Katumba Wamala to join efforts to cause change in Uganda.
Katumba Wamala is admitted at Medipal International Hospital in Kampala after sustaining injuries from a June 01 shooting that claimed the lives of his daughter Brenda Nantongo and driver Haruna Kayondo.

“Ugandans of good will (including Gen Katumba, when he recovers) must urgently work for a change of direction in our country,” said Besigye.
“Clearly, these are not ordinary criminal acts. Violence and instability will continue to cripple our country until we realise the fundamental importance of having social, political and economic systems that are fair and work for all Ugandans.”
Describing the Kisota Road, Bukoto-Kisaasi shooting as “horror,” Besigye expressed sadness over unanswered questions on numerous murders.
“This happened intriguingly close to the place where a Police Chief, AIGP Andrew Kaweesi, was gunned down about same time 4 years ago. Kaweesi’s killers are yet to be found. Similarly, was the gunning down of Hon Abiriga and his brother/ bodyguard a year later,” he noted.
“This is as greatly saddening as it’s worrisome. My thoughts, deeply felt sympathy and prayers go to Gen Katumba Wamala and his bereaved family; his colleagues and friends; and to all right-thinking Ugandans.”
