Besigye Lawyer Eron Kiiza Health Condition: Blood Smelling Breath, Body Swellings, Severe Pain – Says Doreen Nyanjura after Visiting Him

Kampala Capital City Deputy Lord Mayor Doreen Nyanjura has spoken out Dr Kizza Besigye lawyer Eron Kiiza health condition after she visited the fearless human rights advocate.

Eron Kiiza was summarily sentenced by Museveni’s military court for contempt. The nine-month custodial sentence to Kitalya Prison was made after UPDF officers at the Makindye-based army tribunal assaulted Kiiza. Nyanjura and Ingrid Turinawe visited Kiiza at Kitalya Prison on January 08, 2025.

Nyanjura reported that Besigye’s lawyer was in severe pad, had body swellings. Kiiza also told the deputy lord mayor he had undergone untold torture in military cells.

“Counsel Eron is strong but in severe pain, he has pain and swellings all over his body. The severe pain majorly is in the ribs, waist and neck, his left ear is swollen and he has countless bruises all over the body,” wrote Nyanjura.

“He says he was unsparingly brutalized in the detention cells at the court martial and was infact left gasping for his breath. We thank God he alive.”

She went on to note that Kiiza had complained that, “the air he breathes out smells like blood,” leaving her and others to wonder, “could it be that he bled internally?” Nyanjura prays that Kiiza would be “allowed a medical examination by a private independent trusted medical team.”

She has also called out the media for not digging deeper on the assault and torture that Counsel Kiiza suffered at Makindye.

“So far, no media house has ably relayed the torture/ beatings that counsel Eron was subjected to, at some point, we even thought the brutal masked armed beasts clad in military fatigue had killed Eron, yes the torture was that lethal and extreme,” she further noted.

“Eron is supposed to be at some well equipped hospital receiving  treatment and not in a maximum prison.”
