Ugandan opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has visited Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke in a US hospital where the National Unity Platform (NUP) law makers has been admitted for many weeks now.
Nambooze is receiving treatment for the damage her body sustained in the chaotic military raid on Uganda’s Parliament during the age limit debate.
Five years since the raid, Nambooze has been in and out of hospital.
A few months ago, Nambooze flew out of the country to seek treatment at the Bellevue Hospital.
Now, Besigye has visited Nambooze in New York City to check on how she is responding to treatment.
Besigye, a former presidential candidate and leader of the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC), said Nambooze was more fit and in high spirits.
“I’ve visited Hon Betty Nambooze in New York and was comforted to find her looking more fit and in high spirit than I’d seen her for quite some time!” said Besigye after the visit.
“We continue to pray for a quick and full recovery.”
It is not clear when Nambooze, who is the chairperson of Parliament’s Committee on Government Assurances, will be fit and healthy enough to return to Uganda to resume her official duties as Member of Parliament.
But Nambooze’s American doctor recently wrote to Speaker Anita Among informing her that Nambooze will not be returning to Uganda soon. (Read Story Here).
While Nambooze is in a US hospital, two MPs, Speaker Anita Among and Minister Persis Namuganza, have claimed that some people want to kill them. (Read Stories Here and There).
Meanwhile, here is a training opportunity for Ugandan businesses. The University of Chicago, Imuka Access and other partners will conduct a training for SMEs, free of charge. (See Registration Details HERE).
