Besigye Finally Speaks Out on ‘Secret Talks’ with Museveni

Opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye has spoken out on reports that he has previously held talks with President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni.

A former personal physician for Museveni in the 1981-86 NRA bush war, Besigye has challenged his former boss in four presidential elections.

He would later fall out with Museveni at the turn of the millennium, and has since remained his fiercest critic.

But as The Pearl Times reported earlier, Democratic Party (DP) president general Norbert Mao has alleged that Besigye was in secret talks with Museveni. (Read Story Here).

Now, Dr Besigye has dismissed Mao’s claims as false.

“I have never been in secret meetings or dialogue with Mr Museveni,” said Besigye.

The veteran politician further explained that while he and other opposition colleagues were interested in dialogue, they were more interested in transparency.

“We always insisted on transparent, structured and inclusive dialogue for transition,” added Besigye.
