Main opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has told the Electoral Commission (EC) its presidential flagbearer Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) can only meet Chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama and other commissioners on Christmas Day.
The EC had summoned Amuriat and National Unity Platform (NUP) candidate Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine for a meeting at its headquarters over their continued violation of Covid19 and election campaign guidelines on December 14.
But the two opposition presidential candidate were no show, sending representatives instead.
Amuriat had sent lawyer Julius Galisonga to attend on his behalf.
But the EC insisted it needed Amuriat and Bobi Wine to attend in person.
The commission thus rescheduled the meeting with these presidential candidates.
Bobi Wine attended his on December 15.
The EC expects Amuriat to appear before commissioners on December 16, according to an invitation letter issued on December 14.
The meeting is expected at 10am.
But a short statement issued by FDC said the party and Amuriat are “only available on Christmas Day” and that Byabakama was free to “Prepare luwombo!”
Amuriat has also made it clear: “The Electoral Commission is aware of our program, we just don’t have time to meet them as per our program that is extremely tied.”
He continued: “If we took one day off this program, then we wouldn’t have time to come back to the area that we wouldn’t have gone to. If they want me in person, the only day I have available is 25th December 2020, on Christmas.”
