Violent scenes involving Alien Skin and his Fangone Forest as well as singer Pallaso have prompted Balaam Barugahara Ateenyi, an events promoter and junior minister for youths and children affairs, to announce strict measures to stem violence.
Chaos at the Empele Festival began after Alien Skin and his Fangone Forest gang reportedly raided the stage as Pallaso performed.
The group is said to have breached the set, launched attacks on Pallaso until he was left with no option but to run away for his life.
Hours later, videos shares online indicated that Pallaso and his gang had fired back by destroying cars and windows at the Fangone Forest headquarters.
Commenting on the matter, Minister Balaam Barugahara described the incident and related ones as “an alarming note.”
“Gang violence is spiraling out of control, and it’s time for decisive action. Leaders and sponsors of these gangs must be held accountable for their destructive influence,” he wrote.
“The devastating story of a young man brutally assaulted in Buloba last night, during a clash between Fangone Forest’s group and Pallaso’s group, is a heartbreaking testament to the chaos.”
Balaam says the industry stakeholders should undertake at least three key measures to help “reclaim our music industry, promoting peace, unity, and creativity not violence and fear” amd to make “music Unite our communities” instead of promoting gang violence.
Balaam’s list of measures include demanding immediate intervention from authorities to dismantle these gangs; leaders and sponsors to face consequences for promoting violence; and support for victims and their families.
Last month, the Museveni state looked on as Alien Skin – a member of an ‘alliance of thieves’ – raided the headquarters of Museveni’s opponent Bobi Wine’s main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP), as reported Here.
