Adam Kungu Suspended after Ugly War of Words Between Nameere and Mulyanyama

Adam Kungu has been suspended after an ugly war of words between Justin Nameere and Ali Mulyanyama.

Makindye East MP and Makindye Division Mayor Ali Kasirye Nganda, popularly known as Mulyanyama; and Masaka City Woman MP-elect Nameere clashed on Barometer show which ais on Sanyuka TV, NBS Television and Afromobile.

The show sparked controversy on February 3, 2026, after Justine Nameere and Ali Nganda Mulyanyama clashed live on air over the Masaka City Woman MP vote recount.

The debate turned heated, with accusations of rigging and verbal jabs, shocking viewers and failing to meet broadcasting standards.

The altercation began when Mulyanyama accused Nameere of rigging her victory, prompting a fiery response. Moderator Adam Kungu and the producer were criticized for letting the exchange escalate without intervention. Other panelists, including Charles Rwomushanalooked on in surprise.

Now, Next Media Services and Sanyuka TV have handed Adam Kungu an immediate suspension and notice of investigation regarding the violation of editorial policy and broadcasting standards in respect to “The Barometer” episode of Tuesday.

“This communication serves as formal notice in respect to the above captioned. The management has conducted a preliminary review of the aforementioned episode and found it to be in serious breach of the Next Media Editorial Guidelines and the Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) Minimum Broadcasting Standards,” reads the suspension letter in part.

“The show, which featured politicians and analysts, degenerated into an unacceptable exchange of personal attacks, insults, and unsubstantiated allegations among guests.

Specifically, the dialogue included, but was not limited to, references to age in a der0gatory manner, allegations of madness, questioning of educational credentials, references to forged documents, and highly inappropriate personal remarks regarding health and marital status.”

Management has also told Adam Kungu that the content “violated core tenets of our policy, guidelines, standards and the law, including: Responsibility and Ethical Standards: Failure to maintain decorum and civility.”

Kungu also stands accused of failure to ensure accuracy for “allowing unverified and damaging allegations to be aired without challenge and substantiation” and of failure to protect public interest as “the show devolved into personal feud, failing to inform the public on substantive issues.”

There have been a number of clashes on Ugandan TV stations in recent years, including an exchange of punches and ugly words involving people like Erias Lukwago, Ofwono Opondo and Andrew Mwenda. (See Details Here, There and Over There).
