“On 7 May 2026, our intelligence teams successfully apprehended two suspects linked to the Bank of Uganda break-in that occurred on 4 May 2026. The suspects have been identified as Kule Boaz Michael, 19, a resident of Wabigalo, and Kabuye Ramadhan, also known as Rhama, a resident of Nsambya Zone C, both in Kampala City,” announced Rusoke.
“The suspects are currently in police custody, and two stolen laptops have since been recovered. They will be arraigned before court in due course.”

A major security breach at the Bank of Uganda sent shockwaves across Uganda’s financial sector after unknown assailants broke into the central bank’s headquarters in Kampala and stole seven laptops.
The incident occurred in the early hours of May 4, 2026, at the bank’s premises along Kampala Road, raising serious questions about how such a heavily guarded institution could be infiltrated so easily.
It was suspected that the attackers may have received inside assistance, with evidence suggesting that duplicated keys might have been used to access the premises without forcing entry.
The suspects reportedly spent several hours inside the building, disabling internet systems and tampering with surveillance infrastructure before escaping with the devices.
In addition to the laptops, investigators believe other critical equipment such as a CCTV server and internet router may also have been stolen.
Security agencies, including police and intelligence units, quickly launched a joint operation across downtown Kampala in search of the stolen items.
Sniffer dogs traced possible leads to several buildings, including arcades known for electronics trade, where multiple suspects were arrested. The operation saw security forces seal off areas such as Kalungi Plaza and Mutaasa Kafeero Plaza for hours as they conducted thorough searches.
Further developments indicate that the probe has widened to include security personnel, with several police officers and guards linked to the incident being arrested or questioned. Investigators suspect that some of the officers on duty may have abandoned their posts or facilitated access to the criminals, reinforcing fears of insider involvement in the high-profile break-in.
Despite the breach, the Bank of Uganda has assured the public that its core operations remain unaffected and that the financial system is stable.
