An ex-Museveni minister is dead. Ambassador Kweronda Ruhemba, a former minister in different dockets and as an envoy, in the Yoweri Museveni government, breathed his last on Sunday, 29 March 2026.
Former minister Kweronda Ruhemba was pronounced dead at the Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital in Mbarara City where he had been admitted.
His brothers Kweyamba Ruhemba and Dan Kamusiime Ruhemba described him as “a cherished member of our family and a man of great honor.”
“It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Hon. Ambassador Kweronda Ruhemba of Kajara County, Ntungamo District. He was a cherished member of our family and a man of great honor, humility, and service to his community,” Kweyamba Ruhemba and Dan Kamusiime Ruhemba wrote in a joint statement.
“His loss is deeply felt by all who knew and loved him. We kindly ask you to keep us in your prayers during this difficult time. Burial arrangements will be communicated in due course. May his soul rest in eternal peace.”
A veteran Ugandan diplomat and former cabinet minister, Ambassador Kweronda Ruhemba was born in 1947. He attended Mengo Secondary School, Makerere College School and Makerere University.

He had long career in public service: diplomacy, cabinet, and legislation.
For his diplomatic service, Ambassador Kweronda Ruhemba was Uganda’s High Commissioner to South Africa and also served as Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.
For his cabinet positions, Ambassador Kweronda RuhembaWAS State Minister for Sports, Minister of State for Education, and Minister for Finance and Economic Planning.
For his work in legislation, Kweronda Ruhemba was a member of the Constituent Assembly that passed the 1995 Ugandan Constitution.
He was also Member of Parliament for Kajara County.
