Security minister Maj Gen (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi’s wife Susan Muhwezi Kabonero has landed a new juicy job. Susan Muhwezi has been elected a Board Member of the Private Sector Foundation (PSFU) representing the tourism and hospitality sector.

Uganda’s apex body for the private sector, the Private Sector Foundation Uganda (PSFU) boasts of bringing together over 300 business associations, corporate bodies and the major public sector agencies supporting private sector growth.

Founded in 1995, PSFU is engaged in private sector advocacy, capacity building and pushes for positive policy dialogue with government on behalf of the private sector.

Aiming to bolster private sector capacity for effective policy advocacy and market competitiveness, PSFU is the national focal point for the East African Business Council (EABC) and the COMESA Business Council (CBC).

Governed by a Board of Directors that includes the Chief Executive Officer, PSFU’s directors are elected by members during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) every three years to represent diverse experience from different sectors of the private sector.

PSFU says that  a board of Fifteen Directors are elected every after three years according to membership categories and the sectors that were approved by the Annual General Meeting held in November 2022.

Beginning with James Mulwana (RIP), the founder Chairman from 1995-2007, other PSFU chairmen have been Dr Elly Karuhanga and Humphrey Nzeyi.

It is this body that Suzan Muhwezi has been chosen to serve. Although it is not a government entity, the PSFU engages in lobbying the government to create a conducive business environment for the private sector, and partners with government in implementing government projects and programs.

Susan Muhwezi was elected during an Extraordinary General Meeting at UMA Lugogo on March 26, 2026 to represent the tourism and hospitality sector.

Also elected was James Byaruhanga who will represent the ICT sector, Erastos Nsubuga who will represent the agriculture sector and Peter Kasirye who will represent Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

How the PSFU board now looks like after the election of new members:

Board Chairman – Humphrey Nzeyi – Member (Manufacturing)

Vice Chairperson – Sarah Kagingo – Member (Professional Services)

Erastos Nsubuga – (Agriculture, Agribusiness & Forestry)

Aggrey Ashaba – Member (Energy, Mining, Petroleum Oil and Gas)

James Byaruhanga – Member (ICT)

Latimer Mukasa – Member (Financial & Insurance Services)

Jimmy D. Mugerwa – Member (Corporates)

Peter Kasirye – Member (MSMEs)

Mr. Keneth Ayebare – Member (Transport & Logistics)

Dr. Peter Kimbowa – Member (HR, Skills and Education)

Shirley Kongai – Member (Construction & Real Estate)

Susan Muhwezi – Member (Tourism & Hospitality)

Issa Sekito – Member (Trade & Commerce)

Daniel Kazibwe – Member (Culture & Creative Arts sector)

Stephen Asiimwe – Chief Executive Officer (Board Secretary)

SUSAN MUHWEZI ON HER ELECTION

Susan Muhwezi has reacted to her election as PSFU board member representing the tourism and hospitality sector.  “Glory to God for this appointment as Board Member PSFU representing Tourism and Hospitality. Will serve with humility and passion for our Sector,” she wrote.

Her husband Maj Gen (Rtd) Jim Muhwezi, Uganda’s security minister, congratulated her on her new role.

She holds other roles like being the Chairperson of the Uganda Hotel Owners Association (UHOA) as well as serving as the Vice Chair of the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).

Susan Muhwezi also retains her role as the Senior Presidential Advisor on African Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) and Trade although the US government expelled Uganda from AGOA.

A former trade minister shared how she clashed with Susan Muhwezi, accusing her of ‘killing’ Uganda’s AGOA opportunities, as detailed Here.

Meanwhile, a daughter to Jim Muhwezi and his wife Suzan, secured a juicy job in the oil and gas sector, as reported Here.

Years ago, Jim Muhwezi was accused of hiding billions in offshore accounts abroad, allegations that he addressed. (See Details Here and There).
