Uganda’s president Yoweri Museveni says he, his wife Janet Museveni and their daughter survived a car accident “days ago.”
Museveni was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser at his country ranch in Kisozi, Gomba District, when an accident almost happened.
Museveni was driving in the same car with his wife and daughter, he revealed during a Tarehe Sita thanksgiving ceremony in the capital Kampala on Wednesday, 04 March 2026.
The president said a conversation with his wife and daughter distracted him as he talked to them about tree species.
Museveni said he nearly lost control of the vehicle and almost swerved off the road, an incident which would have endangered the lives of members of the first family.
“I was driving with Maama [First Lady and education minister Janet] and [our] daughter and I became a botanist, showing my daughter the different tree species while driving,” Museveni said in his address.
“I got diverted and almost got off the road. We could have had an accident. But God brought me back.”
On some occasions, Museveni drives himself when he visits his country homes and ranches. Sometimes he drives his guests, as a picture with former speaker Rebecca Kadaga showed.
Museveni boasts of a wealth of experience in driving.
He said: “I am a qualified driver. You know that I even drove a seven-tonne lorry in 1972 when we were attacking Mbarara.”
Museveni has previously narrated how he and his son Muhoozi almost got killed by Obote’s soldiers but was saved by now Rwandan president Paul Kagame in Kireka, as reported Here.
