Six people have been killed in an accident that happened early Sunday morning along the Kiboga-Hoima Highway in Kyankwanzi District.
Up to seven other passengers were seriously injured in the same accident that took place at about 4am on March 01, 2026.
The accident which occurred at Kyakabuga village involved a Sky Coaches bus registration number UBQ 595G travelling from Kampala to Hoima and a Fuso Fighter truck registration number UBF 541C ferrying merchandise from Hoima.
The bus and the truck were involved in a collision, triggering a fire that burnt the two vehicles. Some of the passengers were unable to make it alive out of the vehicles.
Hoima’s fire brigade unit and rescue teams from Hoima and Kyankwanzi districts managed to put out the fire.
Local police confirmed the death of six people died on the spot. Two of the deceased were in the bus while four were in the truck.
According to Wamala Region Police spokesperson SSP Lameck Kigozi, the deceased included bus driver Gerald Muhumuza, aged 40 who hailed from Hoima West Division, and Congolese national and businessman Linongola Matsukizo, aged 47.
The bodies of the deceased were transported to Hoima Regional Referral Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examination.
Those who sustained injuries were rushed to Kikonda Health Centre III for treatment.
