Museveni Gives Medal to His Son Muhoozi

Museveni awards Muhoozi with the Kabalega Star Medal

President and Commander in Chief of the Ugandan armed forces Yoweri Museveni has given his son and Chief of Defence Forces Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba a military medal on Friday, 06 February 2026.

The president presented the Kabalega Star Medal to his son at the 45th Tarehe Sita celebrations in Kabale District. Tarehe Sita celebrations are in remembrance of the launch in 1981 of the National Resistance Army (NRA) 1981 bush.

Museveni gave Muhoozi, also his senior advisor on special operations, the medal to appreciate him for his contribution to regional anti-terror and stabilization missions.

The missions include operations against Al-Shabaab terrorists and rebel groups in DR Congo, South Sudan, and Somalia.

“He previously commanded operations against Al-Shabaab up to 2022, and directly executed strategic missions in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Republic of South Sudan and Somalia, all aimed at eliminating terrorism and creating a stable region,” the national army, UPDF, noted.

Meanwhile, Gen Muhoozi also congratulated his father on his 2026 presidential election and the country on holding what he called a peaceful election.

“On my behalf, the officers of the UPDF, and the entire security forces of Uganda, I extend our profound congratulations to President Museveni on his well-deserved election victory,” the first son told his father.

“I congratulate the people of Uganda on peacefully exercising your right in the just concluded presidential, parliamentary and local council elections.

“It is quite comforting that save for a few isolated cases, security was observed in most parts of the country through the electoral process. As a consequence, the 2026 general elections are already being called the most peaceful elections on record.”

It should be remembered that Muhoozi has hinted on his uncle Gen Salim Saleh succeeding Museveni in 2031, as reported Here.
