Brig Gen (Rtd) Emmanuel Rwashande has defeated incumbent Lwemiyaga Theodore Ssekikubo in the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries.
The NRM, led by President Yoweri Museveni, held its primaries on Thursday, July 17, 2025.
In Lwemiyaga, Rwashande and Ssekikubo were pictured exchanging bitterly on polling day.
Results, which were released on Friday, July 18, 2025, indicate that Rwashande won the election by a big margin.
Rwashande got 16,358 votes against Ssekikubo’s 8, 702.
In the third position was Joy Kabatsi with 473 and Jacob Kato with 11votes.
Ssekikubo has rejected the results. He said there were widespread irregularities.” He, among others, blamed “army interference in the electoral process, abductions and assaults on his supporters, and falsification of voter registers.”
Elsewhere in Sembabule, Hanifah Kawooya Bangirina won the NRM flag for Mawogola West while Florence Nambaziira won for the District Woman MP.
President Museveni’s younger brother Sodo Aine Kaguta won in Mawogola North, while Dez Oswald Byuma took the day in Mawogola South.
