Edward Ssebuuufu, popularly known as Eddie Mutwe, who is a bodyguard for main opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine, has been charged with simple and aggr@vated robbery.
Security operatives dropped Eddie Mutwe at Masaka High Court on Monday, May 05, 2025. Eddie Mutwe moved with a limp and could not walk without being supported as he entered the courtroom.
Journalists were blocked from covering Eddie Mutwe’s arraignment in court.
His lawyer Magellan Kazibwe said he had spent almost 40 minutes outside the Masaka High Court gate restrained by a one Afande Asiimwe and his team.
“They were telling us that they were waiting for instructions from their superiors in Kampala to allow the lawyers to go and represent Edward Ssebuuufu [Eddie Mutwe],” said Kazibwe.
He described the acts by security as “pathetic and annoying.”
That it took the intervention of Uganda Law Society for him and a colleague lawyer to be allowed inside the court.
Kazibwe said that by the time he got inside the courtroom, Eddie Mutwe was already appearing before Abdullah Kayiza, a grade one magistrate, who read to him charges of simple and aggravated robbery.
Similar charges were preferred against Achileo Kivumbi, Gaddafi Mugumya and Grace Wakabi, other members of Bobi Wine’s security team.
The state alleges that the offences were committed at Manja village in Lwengo District.
Kazibwe said the case was initiated by a section of journalists in Masaka.
Eddie Mutwe was remanded to Masaka Main Prison until May 25, 2025.
Eddie Mutwe has also told his lawyer that while in detention, they beat him with electricity wires (solidos) five times a day and squeezed his ‘central government,’ as reported Here.
