National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu aka Bobi Wine has dismissed allegations that his party operatives are the ones who tortured Eric Mwesigwa so as to blame the act on President Museveni’s government and security agencies.
Bobi Wine has described Mwesigwa’s U-turn as an act of shamelessness, “amateurish” and part of “old tricks” allegedly used by the regime to sanitize torture and other forms of human rights violations.
“The shameless, criminal regime at it again! Same old tricks. Same ridiculousness. Mwesigwa Eric has been complaining of being trailed ever since he spoke about his torture. Today, from an army barracks, they parade him to claim it’s NUP that tortured him! What a bunch of thugs!” said Bobi Wine hours after Mwesigwa addressed the media in presence of UPDF spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulayigye.
“I wish to state that this is an amateurish attempt by the UPDF to spin the unfortunate torture of a citizen by the army, which confirms that indeed the torture meted out on Mwesigwa and others like him is sanctioned by the UPDF and other security agencies. I am sure nobody in Uganda can fall for this nonsense. They know so well that Museveni’s regime of blood came through violence and deception, and continues to hold onto power using the same tools. This is their standard behaviour!”
The singer-turned-politician also rubbished allegations that the NUP runs a vehicle (drone) that the party’s operatives use to abduct Ugandans and torture them before coming out to blame state security agencies. “We have also noted the empty claims that NUP abducts its own supporters using drones,” said Bobi Wine.
On Wednesday, March 01, 2023, Mwesigwa appeared at the military headquarters in Mbuya and claimed that Bobi Wine and his NUP had promised him Shs50m to allow to be tortured with hot metals and then blame the same on government security operatives. (See Details Here).
