Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba
First son and Commander Land Forces (CLF) Lt Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has said he is one of the most resisted military officers in the Ugandan army, the UPDF.
One of the UPDF’s top commanders, Lt Gen Kainerugaba is not only a member of the first family but has for many years been rumored be in the succession queue for his father Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni’s throne.
Aged 47, Kainerugaba has steadily risen in military rank, raising questions on whether Museveni, 77, was preparing him to succeed him.
Yet, powerful as he is by virtue of his belonging to the first family and his position in the army, some ‘military’ elders have over the years resisted and fought him, at least according to what he says.
“In my military career I have faced the most resistance from some of my elders,” said the first son.
“People who should have been supporting me, were fighting me all the time.”
But Kainerugaba didn’t name the elders in the military who had resisted and fought him.
He went on to castigate these elders.
“I can only describe that as backward culture,” he wrote.
He added: “I promise to always support the young people of Uganda!”
Months ago, the first son threatened to resign from the UPDF.
