WITH ALL DUE RESPECT! Lawyer Rejects Appointment to Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I Cabinet

Counsel Herbert Kwikiriza Apuuli has declined his appointment as Deputy Attorney General of Tooro Kingdom, citing existing professional commitments and a demanding schedule that he says would prevent him from effectively discharging the responsibilities of the office.

In a letter dated October 14, 2026, addressed to the Prime Minister of Tooro Kingdom, Kwikiriza expressed gratitude for being considered for the position but said he had decided against taking up the appointment after carefully assessing his professional obligations.

“I am sincerely grateful for the confidence and trust placed in me through this appointment. It is a great honour to be considered for such an important position in the service of our Kingdom,” he wrote.

However, the advocate and Commissioner for Oaths said his current workload would make it difficult for him to dedicate the time and attention required to perform the duties attached to the office.

“However, after careful consideration, I regret to inform you that I am unable to accept the appointment due to my existing professional commitments and demanding schedule, which would prevent me from devoting the time and attention required to discharge the responsibilities of the office effectively,” Kwikiriza stated.

He subsequently made his decision clear, formally turning down the position.

“I therefore respectfully decline the appointment,” he wrote in the letter.

Despite rejecting the offer, Kwikiriza emphasised that his decision should not be interpreted as a withdrawal of his support for the kingdom or its institutions.

“I remain deeply appreciative of the opportunity and reaffirm my respect for the Kingdom and its institutions,” he said.

The lawyer also expressed willingness to continue contributing his professional expertise whenever his circumstances allow, leaving the door open for him to offer legal guidance to the kingdom outside the demanding responsibilities of the appointed office.

“I remain willing to offer my professional support and counsel whenever circumstances permit,” he added.

Kwikiriza concluded his letter by thanking the Prime Minister for understanding his decision.

“Thank you for your understanding and consideration,” he wrote.

His decision comes as Tooro Kingdom, under the leadership of Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, continues to organise its administration following the announcement of new appointments to key positions in the kingdom’s leadership.

The Deputy Attorney General position is among the legal offices expected to support the kingdom’s administration in handling legal matters and providing professional counsel.

Kwikiriza’s refusal means the kingdom may have to consider another appointment to fill the position, although his letter does not indicate whether he had held discussions with the Prime Minister before making his decision.
