Why Kabuleta frowns upon idea of coalition with Besigye, Bobi Wine

Presidential hopeful Joseph Kabuleta has made it clear he will not join any opposition alliance in his quest for the presidency.

Kabuleta, a former sports reporter, announced his 2021 presidential election bid on July 01.

He said President Yoweri Museveni, in power since 1986, will not be Uganda’s president after next year’s election, and “you can take that to the bank.”

Kabuleta threw his hat in the ring weeks after meeting opposition leader Dr Kizza Besigye, and presidential hopefuls Bobi Wine and Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu.

Besigye, Bobi Wine and other political leaders recently unveiled the ‘United Forces of Change’ coalition.

The alliance is running the ‘No, Nedda Campaign.”

Dr Besigye has insisted the alliance is not about the 2021 presidential election.

KABULETA STINGS BESIGYE & OTHER OPPOSITION POLITICIANS

“Nobody has come to say they are standing for anything. For me am not standing against anybody but for financial liberation.

We want more than change. You can get change but may not be the thing you longed for.

There has to be something specific that we vote for.”

But he said he opposition politicians lacked a clear message.

“I met all of them and they are merely opposition. None of them has a message apart from removing Museveni,” Kabuleta stung.

“You being in this thing [opposition] for so long is like someone being poor all the time. When someone calls you rich you would get offended.”

Some voices in the opposition have previously accused Besigye of overstaying in opposition.

A former Museveni physician during the 1981-86 bush war, Besigye has challenged Museveni in four presidential elections since 2001.

The Watchman Ministries Pastor also said the opposition leaders also lack principles.

“I unite on principle not just removing Museveni. I am not uniting with anybody unless they have a platform of economic liberation that matches with mine,” he declared.

“Even if they have it, they will have to come and unite under me not with me.”
