Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II and President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni
President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has responded to calls for ‘Federo’ (federal system of governance and administration) by Buganda Kingdom.
Demands for Federo remain alive in Buganda — the most prominent kingdom in the country – and other regions of Uganda where it has been well explained.
When the question came up during Museveni’s PDM tour in Mubende, the president argued that Buganda should focus on the East African Community (EAC) federation.
In his view, there is no need for people to keep demanding Federo for Buganda or any other sub region or ethnic group because doing so will not provide market for their goods or even increase production.
He said that, as everyone can definitely see, Buganda is there and its people, the Baganda of different clans, are in the country called Uganda.
Museveni went on to say that those demanding for Federo should seek inspiration from Tanzania where Zanzibar and Tanganyika came together to form one united country.
Museveni complained that the young people were not popularizing the issue of EAC federation, leaving it to him and a few other elders.
Aged 80 now, Museveni said he would go to heaven to live with Jesus at 100 (as his daughters have told him he still has 20 more years to live), and that he would leave Ugandans with their problems.
