UPDF Speaks on Military Officer Who Beat Traffic Policeman Who Refused to Clear Way for Him in Thick Traffic Jam

Uganda’s national army, the UPDF, has spoken out on ‘the altercation’ between a military police soldier and a traffic police officer.

On Monday, May 09, a UPDF Military Police soldier, who was travelling with colleagues in a green vehicle Registration Number H4DF B02 was involved in a scuffle with a traffic police officer around Mukwano Mall in the capital Kampala.

According to UPDF and Defence Ministry Spokesperson Brig Gen Felix Kulaigye, the national army regrets the incident and will probe the same before taking action against the officer involved.

“The incident is regrettable and we extend our regrets to the affected persons, traffic department and Uganda Police in general,” said Brig Gen Kulaigye on May 10.

“Investigations to establish the facts and circumstances surrounding the incident have commenced and the findings will guide on our next course of action.”

He went on to tell Ugandans that the actions of the UPDF officer do not reflect the image of the national army.

“The actions of this soldier are reprehensible and are not representative of UPDF as an institution that is known for its discipline and being a peoples’ army,” said the army spokesperson.

“UPDF reiterates its commitment to the rule of law as guided by the Constitution and the UPDF Code of Conduct.”

The incident was captured on camera, and the video has since gone viral on social media, leaving Ugandans enraged. (Watch Video Here).

The incident comes a few months since another military officer shot at a police traffic officer whose leg has since been cut off. (Read Story Here).
