A Ugandan university student was killed in an accident in the morning hours of June 11, 2025.
The deceased has been identified as 24-year-old Gariyo Gibiso, who was pursuing a Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree at Metropolitan International University.
Registered as number BIT/286/UMC, Gariyo Gibiso died in a road accident that happened in Mukono.
Police are still investigating the circumstances that led to the accident which claimed the youthful university student.
Friends and family paid tribute to Gariyo Gibiso, describing him as humble and very hard working.
“RIP our own student at MIU. He was doing BIT. Gariyo Gibiso, 24, BIT/286/UMC. He died in a terrible accident this morning in Mukono,” read a condolence message attributed to Metropolitan International University.
There has been an increase in the number of accidents in recent years. Up to 25,107 accidents were reported in 2024, with up to 4,434 of them fatal; 13,134 serious; and 7,539 minor.
