Uganda’s Top Coffee Billionaire Companies Named. See How Much They Sell Abroad

As the debate on the rationalization of Uganda Coffee Development Authority (UCDA) continues, The Pearl Times presents the list of Uganda’s top coffee billionaire companies.

These 65 are Uganda’s leading coffee exporters, according to UCDA figures for September 2024. The September 2024 reports also indicates that a total of 532,212 60-kilo bags of coffee valued at US$ 144.71 million were exported at an average price of US$ 4.53/kilo, US cents 12 higher than US$ 4.41/Kilo in August 2024, and US$ 1.80 higher than US$ 2.73/kilo in September 2023.

The Authority further notes that these figures represebt “a decrease of 7.67% quantity and 53.79% in quantity and value respectively compared to the same month last year.”

For farm-gate prices, Robusta Kiboko averaged UGX 6,750 per kilo; Fair Average Quality (FAQ) UGX 12,750 per kilo, Arabica parchment UGX 12,750 per kilo and Drugar UGX 11,500 per kilo. On an annual basis, earnings from the cash crop rose between 2022-2023 and 2023-2024.

UCDA figures show that coffee exports for twelve months (Coffee year 2023/2024) totaled 6.35 million bags worth US$ 1.4 billion compared to 6.14 million bags worth US$ 940.1 million in the previous year (Coffee year 2022/2023). “This represents an increase of 3.42% and 48.97% in quantity and value respectively,” the authority noted.

Uganda’s Top Coffee Billionaire Companies

With 89,061 bags of coffee, Olam Uganda Ltd exported the biggest amount of coffee out of Uganda in the month of September 2024, followed by Ugacof (U) Ltd with 61,842 bags, Kyagalanyi Coffee Ltd with 60,852, Touton Uganda Limited with 42,324 bags, Louis Dreyfus Company (U) Ltd with 28,525 bags, Ibero (U) Ltd with 28,020 bags, Ideal Quality Commodities Ltd with 26,358 bags, Export Trading Company (U) Ltd with 24,505 bags, Kawacom (U) Ltd with 24,072 bags and Drk General Merchants Ltd with 18,304 bags of coffee, completing the list of Uganda’s top 10 coffee billionaire companies.

Jkcc General Supplies Ltd with 17,517 bags of coffee, Jber Coffee Ltd with 16,988 bags, Grainpulse Ltd 9,630, Darley Investments Ltd 6,884, Rezlex Investment Ltd 6,549, Besmark Coffee Company Limited 5,640, Abbarci Industries Limited 4,485, Sukuma Commodities Limited 3,663, Kaweri Coffee Plantation 3,648, and Agri Evolve 3,414 complete the list of Uganda’s top 20 coffee exporters in September 2024.

They are followed by Ankole Coffee Producers Cooperative Union Ltd with 3,374 bags of coffee, Sena Indo Uganda Limited 3,124, Nucafe 2,950, Agri Exim Limited 2,672, Coffee World Ltd 2,334, Rubanga Cooperative Society Ltd 2,268, Discovery Trading Limited 2,140, Commodity Solutions (U) Ltd 1,986, Noble Commodities (U) Ltd 1,734, and Gemini Commodities Limited with 1,670 bags of coffee completing the list of Uganda’s top 30 coffee exporters in September 2024.

From number 31 to 40 are: Bakwanye Trading Co. Ltd with 1,640 bags, Noble Choice Limited with 1,584, Pra Exports Uganda Limited 1,500, Brewfinity Uganda Limited 1,336, Xag Coffee Exporters 1,336, Equatorial Beans Factory Ltd 1,292, Zigoti Coffee Works Ltd 1,020, Gisha Coffee Ltd 1,002, Superbia International Coffee Trade Ltd 988, and Black House Trading Co. Limited with 984 bags of coffee in the month of September 2024.

From number 41 to 50 are: Ishaka Quality Commodities Ltd which exported 950 bags of coffee, Drogo Commodities Limited 900, Robust Commodities Uganda Limited 900, Mt Elgon Agroforestry Communities 865, Mountain Harvest SMC Limited 757, Banta African Coffee Limited 700, Bowi Logistics Ltd 700, Mwanyi Terimba Ltd 680, Clarke Farm Ltd 654, and Kibinge Coffee Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd with  654 bags of coffee.

These are followed by Shiba World Investments Ltd with 640 bags, Gorilla Summit Coffee Development 450, Nakana Coffee Factory Ltd 350, Step Soluable Limited 350, Tanin Global Limited 334, Alvi Coffee Ltd 333, Bunga Company Limited 320, Friends Of Mothers Initiative Ltd 320, Jofald Rayel Company Limited 320, Kasaali Farmers’ Cooperative Society Ltd 320 320, Konah White Pepper Limited 320, Quadrant International Uganda Limited 320, Velvet Café Limited 320, Mbale Importers & Exporters Ltd 300 and Grade A Investments Ltd 240.

It should be remembered that President Museveni has given five reasons why agencies like UCDA are parasites that should be removed.
