As expected, the 2024 academic calendar for Uganda’s Primary, Secondary Schools and Other Education Institutions shows a busy year for students and their teachers.

According to the 2024 school calendar from the Ministry of Education and Sports, learners will have a few weeks for holidays and months of study.

The following 2024 academic calendar included key term or semester as well as holiday dates for primary, secondary, technical/farm schools and polytechnics, Uganda Technical Colleges and Uganda Colleges of Commerce, Allied Health Training Institutions, Nursing and Midwifery Training Institutions, Primary Teachers’ Colleges (PTCs), National Teachers’ Colleges (NTCs) and Health Tutors’ Colleges.

PRIMARY, SECONDARY, TECHNICAL/FARM SCHOOLS AND POLYTECHNICS CALENDAR 2024

Term One (first term) begins on Monday, February 05, 2024 to Friday May 03, 2024, lasting 89 days.

The first term (term one) holiday will run from May 04, 2024 and end on May 26, 2024, lasting 23 days.

Term Two (Second Term) will begin on Monday, May 27, 2024 and end on Friday, August 23, 2024, also taking 89 days.

Term two (second term)

Term Three (Third Term) will start on Monday, September 16, 2024 and end on Friday December 06, 2024. The term will be 82 days.

The third term holiday will be 57 days, nearly two months. It will begin on December 07, 2024 a d end on February 02, 2025.

The entire calendar year for primary, secondary technical/farm schools and polytechnics will be 260 days long, meaning that pupils and students will be in class for eight and a half months.

The three holidays will last 103 days, meaning learners and teachers will rest from class work for nearly three and a half months.

Proposed dates for start of term one (first term) 2024 for Senior One (S1), Senior Five (S5) and Year One for technical/farm schools and community polytechnics are as follows:

Placement of P7 leavers will happen on February 01-02, 2024. Senior One (S1) students will report for first term of 2024 on February 19, 2024.

Placement of S4 leavers will happen on February 26-27, 2024. Term one reporting for Senior Five (S5) will be on March 11, 2024.

Technical vocational and farm or veterinary institutes

Students will report for first term (term one) on February 01, 2024 and break off on May 03, 2024. First term will last 90 days.

Term Two (second term) will begin on May 29, 2024, and end on August 24, 2024, lasting 84 days. Third Term (term Three) will start on September 16, 2024 and close on December 06, 2024, going for 79 days. Industrial training will run for the whole of January, taking 30 days.

UGANDA TECHNICAL COLLEGES AND UGANDA COLLEGES OF COMMERCE CALENDAR 2024

The recess term for Year 1 (2022-2023-January 2022 intake) began on December 18, 2023 and will end on February 9, 2024. It will last eight weeks.

The recess term for Year 1 (2023-2024) intake began on December 18 and will end on January 28, 2024, lasting six weeks.

First term (term one) for Year 2 (2022-2023-January 2022 intake) will begin on February 12, 2024 and end on May 17, 2024, lasting 14 weeks.

Second Term (term two) for year two (second year) of the 2022-2023 – January 2022 intake, will begin on May 18 and end June 02, 2024, lasting two weeks.

Recess term for Year One (first year) of the 2023-2024 in take will will start on May 18 and end on August 23, 2024, lasting 14 weeks.

The recess term for second year (year two) of the 2022-2023-January 2022 intake) will begin on June 03 and end on August 23, 2024, lasting 12 weeks.

Recess term for Year two (second year) of 2022-2023 – January 2022 intake will start on September 02 and end on December 01, 2024. The recess term will last for 15 weeks.

Term One for Year Two (second year) of the 2023-2024 intake will begin on September 02 and end on December 13, 2024, lasting 17 weeks.

Term one of year one (first year) of the 2024-2025 intake will begin on September 02 and end on December 13, 2024, lasting 17 weeks.

The recess term for Year Two (second year) for 2023-2024 intake and year one of the 2024-2025 intake will start on December 16 and end on January 31, 2025, lasting seven weeks.

Term Two (second term) of Year Two of 2023-2024 intake and first year (year one) of the 2024-2025 intake will take 17 weeks, beginning on February 03 and ending on May 23, 2025.

Recess term for Year Two (second year) of the 2023-2024 intake and first year (year one) of the 2024-2025 intake will begin on June 02 and end on August 29, 2025, lasting 13 weeks.

For Uganda Colleges of Commerce or business colleges or cooperative colleges, Year One Semester Two of the 2022-2023 academic year and Year One Semester One of the 2023-2024 academic year began on September 04, 2023 and ended on December 22, 2023, lasting for 14 weeks.

Industrial training began on January 03, 2024, and will end on February 16, 2024, lasting for six weeks.

Year One Semester Two of the 2023-2024 academic year and Year Two Semester One of the 2022-2023 academic year will begin on February 19, 2024 and end on May 17, 2024, lasting 13 weeks.

Year Two Semester Two for finalists from the 2022-2023 intake  will last 12 weeks, beginning from May 27 2024 and ending on August 23, 2024.

HEALTH TRAINING INSTITUTIONS CALENDAR 2024

For Nursing and Midwifery Training Institutions, the January-June Semester will begin from January 29, 2024 and end on June 28, 2024, lasting 22 weeks.

Holidays will run for 19 days, beginning on July 01 and ending on July 19, 2024.

The July-December Semester will begin from July 22 and end on December 13, 2024, a period of 21 weeks.

Holidays will then begin on December 16 and end in January 2025.

For Allied Health Training Institutions, the January-June Semester will run from February 12, 2024 to June 15, 2024, a period of 17 weeks.

Recess term will run for 28 days, beginning on June 17 and ending on July 13, 2024.

Holidays will last 27 days, running from July 14 and ending on August 11, 2024.

The July-December Semester will begin on August 12 and end on December 14, 2024, a period of 17 weeks.

Recess term will last 30 days, running from December 15, 2024 and ending on January 15, 2025.

Primary Teachers’ Colleges (PTCs), National Teachers’ Colleges (NTCs) and Health Tutors’ Colleges will run on the respective programs of the universities they are affiliated to: Makerere University for Health Tutors’ College Mulago and Kyambogo University for teachers and tutors.
