Darius Nandinda, the Kabale Resident District Commissioner (RDC), has ordered all radio stations to avoid mentioning burial dates in all death announcements.
Uganda’s burials, normally attracting hundreds, are presently restricted to only 20 mourners from the deceased’s immediate family to prevent the spread of Covid19.
With President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni instituting a total lockdown after an upsurge in cases and deaths occassioned by new Covid19 strains, RDC Nandinda says death announcements details burial dates and venues help people to travel for funerals which should be ‘scientific’ in the face of the pandemic.
On June 18, Nandinda wrote to all radio stations in Kabale, requesting them to omit burial dates in the death announcements.
