Mbarara City Woman MP race is expected to be hotly contested as two of the contestants in the NRM Primary elections prepare to come as independents.

The two candidates who have expressed their intentions to come as independents are Donah Kyomugisha and Rita Atukwasa Bwahika of whom participated in the NRM Primaries.
Ms Atukwasa was declared winner of the election by the Mbarara city registrar before her victory was overturned by the NRM elections disputes tribunal after successful petition by the finally declared winner Kiconco Bonnie Kashaija.
The two candidates accuse party electoral commission of not addressing their grievances that arose from the primary election to elect flag bearer which forced them to come on independent ticket.
Ms Rita Atukwasa said the tribunal did not have grounds that would guarantee overturning an election since no investigations were carried into the matter and declared to contest as independent candidate.
Ms Donah Kyomugisha equally said she was not in agreement with the findings of the tribunal and that she will not rally behind the official flag bearer but rather contest as independent candidate.
Ms Bonnie Kiconco Kashaija who is happy with the decision of the tribunal asked her opponents to rally behind her for the good of NRM.

Ms Jolly Kagira Tumwine another contestant who lost in primary elections conceded and pledged to support the declared candidate.
