A top commander in Uganda’s army, the UPDF, has died. Col David Byaruhanga died at a hospital in the capital Kampala on the afternoon of March 21, 2025.
Col David Byaruhanga was the 409 Brigade Commander based at Bondo Barracks in Arua District of Uganda’s West Nile sub-region.
Fourth Division Public Relations Officer Capt David Kamya was quoted as saying that Col Byaruhanga had died as a hero and as one worthy of being remembered.
Those from Acholi will remember Col David Byaruhanga for his role in enforcing President Yoweri Museveni’s Executive Order Number Three on curbing illegal charcoal trade in Acholi sub-region of Northern Uganda.
Those in Karamoja will remember him for his role in dismarming Karacuna warriors in the sub-region.
Col David Byaruhanga was pronounced dead at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala.
Although the cause of his death was not readily revealed, some reports indicated that Byaruhanga had succumbed to injuries sustained during fighting in DR Congo, the war torn Ugandan neighbour to the west.
