THE END IS NEAR: Pro-Besigye Group Sets Date to Throw Amuriat, Nandala Mafabi Out of FDC Najjanankumbi HQ if They Refuse to Resign

Pearl Times Reporter by Pearl Times Reporter

The countdown for Patrick Oboi Amuriat (POA) and Nathan Nandala Mafabi to leave the opposition Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) headquarters at Najjanankumbi in Kampala may have started if threats from a group aligned to Dr Kizza Besigye, Erias Lukwago and Ibrahim Ssemujju Nganda are anything to go by.

With no resolution in sight after the cracks in FDC widened last week, a group that is associated with the Katonga Road office has threatened to reclaim the party’s head office and restore sanity at the once vibrant political organization.

Last week, the chaos at FDC reached the peak after Party Chairman Wasswa Birigwa was held hostage at the HQ where Amuriat, the party president, was at the time. The elderly and largely amiable Birigwa had to climb over the fence to get out of the HQ.

The ugly scenes were blamed on Nandala Mafabi, the party Secretary General, who has since denied that he did not mastermind the chaos. With allegations that Amuriat and Nandala Mafabi are moles who are reportedly hell bent on selling the FDC to President Museveni, a group of officials and enthusiasts close to former party president and four-time president Dr Besigye’s Katonga Road-based People’s Government have issued an ultimatum to the embattled Najjanankumbi faction bosses.

The group, which includes officials that have disagreed with Mafabi and Amuriat, has threatened the two party leaders.

“Resign now or we come for you,” their notice reads.

According to the group, Amuriat and Mafabi have until Wednesday, July 26, to resign or be thrown out.

It is not clear if the group will be persuaded by some moderates to abandon the idea because of how chaotic an attempt to throw Mafabi and Amuriat out of the HQ might be.

It should be remembered that a senior ally of Dr Kizza Besigye has previously alleged that the opposition strongman had shifted his office from Najjanankumbi to Katonga Road over infiltration by Museveni. (See Details Here and There).

FDC party president Patrick Oboi Amuriat and Secretary General Nathan Nandala Mafabi are being accused of taking money from Museveni to buy posh cars and fight Bobi Wine’s NUP. Amuriat and Nandala have since fired back. (Read Stories Here, There and Over There).
